World Book Day Literacy Homework

Dear 3EL,

I would like you to complete the following Literacy homework task linked to World Book Day...

At the end of this blog, I would like you to click on 'Add Comment'. I would then like you to tell me which book character you came to World Book Day as. Present this as a fact file about your character. For example, you could go on Google images and copy and paste a picture of your character, you could then tell me what book your character is taken from and who the author is that created this character, what he/she looks like, what he/she likes to do and why you chose this particular character for World Book Day.

Here's my World Book Day character fact file !

Name: Paddington Bear

Book taken from: Paddington Bear

Created by: Michael Bond

Description: Paddington Bear is a kind and friendly bear who arrives from Darkest Peru in London to look for a home. His favourite thing to eat is a marmalade sandwich, which he keeps under his hat at all times. Paddington goes to stay with the Brown family, who aren't very sure about him at first, but ends up having all sorts of adventures!

Why I have chosen him: I love bears and the idea of having such a well-mannered bear to stay sounds good to me!  The stories about Paddington are very funny and even grumpy Mr Brown comes to love him.

I look forward to finding out all about your World Book Day characters and please remember to check your writing carefully - ask an adult to help.

Bonne weekend!

Name: Mr ****

Book: Mr ****

Author: David Walliams

I dressed up as Mr **** for World Book Day.

Mr **** is a homeless tramp who wears a scruffy old coat that is very **** and held together with string tied around it. He also has a scruffy old dog who follows him everywhere.

I like Mr **** because I think he has had a very hard life being homeless and alone however, he befriends a little girl called Chloe who does not like school and he is very kind to her.

They become great friends and do everything together.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book to see what happens to Mr **** and Chloe.

Hi Year 3,  thank you for all your comments about your World Book Day characters - I've really enjoyed hearing all about them!  Have any of you been inspired to read some new books after reading about everyone else's favourites?

Please do remember to check your spelling and capital lettters too - remember anyone's NAME is a proper noun and needs a capital!

Happy reading!

Name: The Joker

Book taken from: Batman

Created by: Bob Kane, Bill Finger and Jerry Robinson

The joker is the villain in the Batman books and films. He doesn't look like the other baddies. He has a white face with a huge red smile and black around his eyes. The joker is a scientist who has lots of gases and poisons that he uses to attack people. The joker has been played by 10 different actors in the batman films.

Why I have chosen him: I chose the joker because even though he is a bad guy he is very clever. He makes all of his own gadgets and because he is a scientist can make all of his own gases. He always laughs even when he is about to go to jail. The joker hasn't always been a bad guy.

Did you know? The Joker made his first appearance in the batman films in 1940. Thats a long time ago.
